Who, what, where, when and a large side-order of why
Have you written something and now you think you need help? Or want to write something and don't know how to start?
I can probably help.
In the first instance check out the Writer's services that I provide. In the second read my article on how to write.
What is creative writing?
Creative writing is something that one either does or doesn't. But what do we mean by creative writing? Well, normally people mean making up a story or a description of something. But that could just as easily refer to advertising copy, which often seems to be made up and have no relation to the real world.
So, something else then. Something written (definitely has to do with words) that is intended to communicate some emotional effect on the recipient. You write something sad, you want the reader to be sad; something exciting, you want the reader to be excited. This precludes most business writing &endash; although a business proposal is intended to excite the reader so that they ... ah, but there it is. With creative writing the emotion is the end in itself, whereas with other things there's an ulterior motive.
Then there's the question of the borderline between poetry and prose. That may not be important to some people, but I do both so it's relevant to me. And the answer? I've no idea. I've read prose that was pure poetry and poetry that was almost prose. Perhaps it doesn't matter.
But that's the great thing about art – you can talk about it forever and never get anywhere but be entertained anyway.
