Writing web content

The main difficulty with any company authoring the content for its website is being too close to it. The company's personnel know everything about what the company does and this is reflected in the text: it assumes things that other people will not know.

In addition, with technically based companies, there is always the risk of using web content that is not simple enough; once again the facts are obvious to the author and so things that should be explained (or even left out) are unexplained and left in. The visitor to the site gets confused and blows out.

'Stickiness' is a very important feature of a website, it's the measure of how long a visitor stays before going elsewhere. Websites with poorly conceived content have a much lower stickiness than those designed with the visitor in mind.

Creating excellent web content requires the ability to understand what the company wants to communicate combined with the skill of communicating that clearly to the visitor.
