A collection of poems by the Wordsmith

Bring Out the Big Guns

It's not 1914.
There is no cry for war,
The men will not march with
Enthusiasm
To queue and sign up
For poison gas death
Or worse.

The people don't want war?
No one wants a war.

The people will not queue up
(to sign up)
But more, the local leaders express
Their concern, their worry
"Is this really the right thing?"

War is not what it used to be,
Instant communications and
Cultural integrations combine
To create an indirect fifth column.

Should every Muslim be locked up?
(Send 'em home!)
But they are home, they are us,
We are they. And they do not love him either.

It is not 1914.
But the big guns are brought out
To shoot the party faithless
Back to belief.
